A LIFETIME OF SERVICE

About Brad Sherman

Brad Sherman was born and raised in Southern California and has lived in the San Fernando Valley for most of his life. He represents the San Fernando Valley and parts of the West Side and Ventura County. He lives in Sherman Oaks.

During his tenure in Congress, Sherman has developed a reputation as a strong fighter for working families, seniors, young people, veterans, immigrants, marginalized communities, as well as our communities' most vulnerable.

He has worked to advance priorities that create more good paying middle class jobs, protect workers' rights, pass President Obama's Affordable Care Act, safeguard Social Security and Medicare, invest more in 911 emergency response, including for firefighters and police, combat climate change by investing in clean and renewable energy like wind and solar, fund public schools, enact common sense gun safety measures, pass tough campaign finance reforms through the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, protect abortion rights and Planned Parenthood funding, and more.

A consumer rights advocate, Sherman was among the leaders behind the formation of the Consumer Financial Protection Agency, which protects consumers from the worst practices of financial institutions, including hidden and exorbitant fees. Sherman also protected families’ retirement funds and college savings and put controls on companies which reward corporate CEOs multi-million dollar bonuses for bad performance.

Brad was the first Member of Congress to introduce articles of impeachment against Donald Trump in 2017, early in his first term. Early in Trump's second term, Sherman was the first Member of Congress to confront Donald Trump face-to-face, in front of the cameras at a roundtable focused on the Pacific Palisades Fire.

Congressman Sherman has successfully fought for hundreds of millions of dollars to protect environmentally sensitive land around our country, and for tens of millions of dollars to preserve the Santa Monica mountains and complete the backbone trail. He has secured funds for the Orange Line, and for improvements to the 405 and 101 Freeways, and is fighting for funds to build rail through the Sepulveda Pass.

Congressman Sherman introduced the Housing Unhoused Disabled Veterans Act, which passed the House in 2025, to streamline access to housing for homeless disabled veterans.

Prior to his election to Congress, Brad Sherman worked as a CPA and Certified Tax Law Specialist, and headed up California’s Board of Equalization.  He is one of only four CPAs serving in the House , and co-chairs the bipartisan CPA caucus .

Sherman attended public schools in California, graduated from UCLA, and graduated from Harvard Law School. Brad is married to Lisa Kaplan Sherman, and they have three daughters, Molly (16), Naomi (15), and Lucy (14).
